Activities

The Forest Centre is a great place to visit as a base for a day out, whether you are planning a walk, run, cycle or horse ride or perhaps a more organised activity. It’s also a wonderful place for bird watching. There’s a plan of the Park here that you can use to find your way around.

As well as the bike hire shop which is right next to the Centre’s reception, the Park has other attractions for those of you looking for something a bit more active. Battlefield Live offers combat games and Stewartby Watersports Club run a variety of watersports from their base at the north end of the Country Park.

Birds in the Park

The Country Park is a well-known hot spot for wild birds throughout the year. Its mix of woodland, lakes, scrapes and meadows make it extremely attractive to a wide variety of birds. There are two bird hides in the Wetland Nature Reserve, each with chalk boards to record sightings. There’s also a chalk board at Forest Centre Reception. Don’t forget to record what you see – it’s all valuable information.

We will shortly be developing a bird watching page on this site so please come back soon. In the mean time, why not come to one of our regular bird walks? Led by Forest Volunteers, these walks are a great way to get to know the birds that live in and visit the Park. Read more…

Battlefield LIVE (Combat Gaming)

Battlefield LIVE offers you the opportunity to play live on our purpose built woodland battlefield at the Forest Centre.
Unlike other combat gaming such as laser tag, airsoft and paintball, Battlefield LIVE offers a more realistic, cost effective and safer option.
There is a range of different missions for you to attempt, ensuring no two plays are ever the same. Select your weapons from our extensive arsenal, allowing you the tools you need to complete your mission in a way that best suits your playing style. Our gaming guns with S*A*T*R technology, gives ‘real time hit feedback’.

There are two different types of Battlefield LIVE ‘Pay & Play’ sessions through the Summer holiday period. Live PLAY and Live OPS Sessions.

Live PLAY sessions allows participants to join in at any point throughout the session; Players pay for the number of gaming lives they want and following a short briefing, enter the battlefield, where it’s everyone for themselves. If players lose all their lives they can ‘Pay & Play’ again, as many times as they like.

Live OPS style of ‘Pay & Play’ sessions (these are the ones we currently run each weekend at times stated above) have a capacity of 25 players, which would involve the creation of three/four teams. This allows for one team to recover their breath between missions! We aim to ensure every team plays 5-6 operational missions per ‘Pay & Play’ sessions. In the event there are fewer players in any particular session and only two teams, participants may well get additional operational missions and time in the battlefield!

Operational missions are varied and require a range of technical and tactical skills to achieve victory. Operational missions can include;

DEATH MATCH; fight a battle of attrition, including basic gaming tactics, aiming and avoiding getting hit. CAPTURE THE BASE; one team starts in a base and must try to defend it against the other team who will attack it. CAPTURE & HOLD; Teams fight over a central sector for control of a key position. SNIPER; snipers are positioned carefully, under good cover. The hunting team must locate and kill the snipers.
