An Uplifting Donation
Donations can be big or small, but whatever the size we always appreciate them! Last week we received a donation that was big in every way – a forklift truck worth over £11,000 from Jungheinrich, a premium materials handling solutions provider, based in Milton Keynes.
So why do we need a forklift? Well, mainly this shiny new piece of kit will help us develop our firewood business. Our old forklift could only be used on the smooth flooring inside our barn, so if anything needed to be lifted outside it had to be done manually, which was hard work and time-consuming. Our new truck can cope with the rough outdoor terrain, which means our firewood production will be speedier and less labour intensive – all good news. There’s also lots of maintenance jobs and repairs around the Forest Centre that we have to hire in equipment to do, but the new truck will help with these too.
As well as the new truck, Jungheinrich agreed for one of their local engineers to donate their time as a volunteer to train our staff in using the new truck and service and maintain it in the future – all free of charge, which will save us money.
So donations are not always about money – goods, equipment and volunteer time can make a huge impact! If you work for a company that would like to help create the Forest of Marston Vale and help us towards our target of planting another 5 million trees – just get in touch, we’d love to hear from you!
